In 1974 Peter Minialoff took over the manufacturing business
of Spiral Duct and the purchase of Alpha Sheet Metal. In the
late 70's Alpha provided over a mile of 48" dia. spiral ducting
complete with fully welded rings and a Alpha Quick Lock coupler.
The duct was for the Bruce Generating station. However this
duct was supplied and installed under lake Huron. The duct
was used to supply fresh air to the men working under the
lake. A tunnel 28' ft. in diameter was cut under the lake.
The duct was removed and the water was let into the tunnel.
This water was necessary to cool the nuclear reactors. In
the 1980's Alpha expanded its product line to include a complete
line of Flexible duct. Both metallic and non-metallic flex
duct. As well they added insulated and acoustical flex. Alpha
survived the recession of the 90's not by down sizing but
rather expanding. First in the early 90's into the architectural
field by manufacturing and supplying architectural panels
for many of the schools and institutional buildings which
were built during that time.

Later in the mid 90's they further expanded in the manufacturing
of heating and ventilating ductwork. Today, Alpha is the only
manufacturer in Ontario, in the sheet metal heating and ventilating
industry that manufactures Round Spiral Duct, Rectangular
Duct, Flexible Duct, Flat Oval Spiral Duct and all their related
products.
In 1997 and 1998 Alpha was involved with the Canadian Government
in the supply of all the ductwork for the new Havana Airport
in Cuba. The duct was manufactured in their Mississauga plant,
loaded in containers and shipped by boat to Cuba. Most recently
Alpha used a very innovative approach to a local project The
Toronto Convention Center. The Contractor was faced with the
difficult and expensive process of lowering all of their ductwork
into the building by tower crane. The solution by Alpha was
that they would place their manufacturing on site. Produce
all the ductwork over a very short period then remove their
equipment. The contractor was extremely pleased with this
proposal and the cost savings to the contractor were enormous.
Today in the year 2000, Alpha's continuing growth includes
fully assembled and factory sealed rectangular duct supplied
directly to the project ready for installation.
